We are pleased to announce that Global SchoolNet is a
member of the Steering Committee for the 2005 Education
Conference in Beijing, China this Summer 2005. The theme
of the conference is INTEGRATING MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES,
CREATIVITY, AND PROBLEM SOLVING.
The U.S. Steering Committees has identified the
following four topic areas for our Call for Papers:
*Building Collaboration
*Unleashing Creativity
*Shifting Learning Environments
*Cultivating Change
So -- Please join us by:
A) registering as a delegate
B) presenting a paper (submit abstract now)
C) establishing a partnership with a Chinese
institution/association, and
D) informing others in your network of this opportunity
to expand their international understanding!

Announcing the GSN Online Shared Learning
Awards!
=> Nominations due January 14, 2005
These awards recognize exemplary telecollaborating
teachers, media specialists, and other school-based
educators who promote the effective use of online
collaborative learning.
TWO educators will be selected for the 2005 Awards which
consists of a cash award and an expense-paid trip
(travel, hotel & registration) to the National Education
Computing Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
U.S.A. June 25-30, 2005, where they will be recognized
as part of the NECC program. (Attendance at NECC is not
required to receive the cash award.)
U.S.A. Educator: One Award of $2,500 will be given to an
educator who teaches within the 50 United States.
Non-U.S.A. Educator: One Award of $2,500 will be given
to an educator who teaches outside the 50 United States,
including its commonwealth and unincorporated
territories (such as Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands,
Guam, etc).
In addition, several finalists will receive cash awards
of $250.

In partnership with the World Future Society, the theme
for CyberFair 2005 is "Prepare and Unite!" Students are
encouraged to prepare for the future - by thinking about
their own future plans, the conditions that will affect
the future of their community, and issues of global
importance. Projects that best illustrate "future
thinking" will be invited to the World Future Society
international conference in Chicago, July 2005.

Doors to Diplomacy
(for middle school and high school students)
=> Registration now open!
=> Projects due March 21, 2005
The U.S. Department of State announces the 2005 Doors to
Diplomacy award competition to recognize the
student-created Web project that best teaches others
about the importance of international affairs and
diplomacy. Winners will be announced in spring 2005.
Each student member of the team who wins the Doors to
Diplomacy award receives a $2,000 scholarship, and the
winning coaches' schools each receive a $500 cash award.
The State Department also sponsors a trip to Washington,
DC, where the winners will receive a private tour of the
State Department facilities, meet with key officials,
and participate in a special award presentation
ceremony.
